Dr Nick Mantzioros MB, BS, FRANZCO Eye Specialist & Surgeon | Cataract, Glaucoma & General
Dr Nick Mantzioros’ clinical practice focuses on the management of glaucoma, cataract and pterygium surgery and he also provides comprehensive eye care . He has a special interest in the retinal conditions of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion.
Dr Mantzioros completed his undergraduate medical training in Melbourne, graduating from Monash University Medical School .He undertook his specialist training in Ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital and thus becoming Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology .
He then continued his postgraduate studies in the United States where he was awarded a clinical and research glaucoma fellowship in the Ophthalmology Department at the University of San Diego, California (UCSD), under the world-renowned surgeon Professor Robert Weinreb. After completing his fellowship training he joined the staff at UCSD School of Medicine. Dr Mantzioros has travelled extensively to major Eye Institutes in the USA and Europe and spent two years working in Europe prior to returning to Melbourne.
Since 1996 he has been in private practice at Caulfield Eye Clinic. He also works as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital , where he is involved in the education and training of the young ophthalmology trainees.
In his treatments of cataract, Dr Mantzioros has experience in laser assisted cataract surgery and frequently helps patients who simultaneously need management for both cataract and glaucoma.
He inserts monofocal, toric (astigmatism correcting) and multifocal intra-ocular lenses that offer an expanded range of vision for both distance and near vision in his cataract patients.
